My Project
Flexible seating is key to bringing comfort and choice into the classroom. During independent or partner reading time, my students love to find an alternate reading spot in class. The wobble cushions and the flex-space floor chairs will allow my students to do so more comfortably. The wobble chairs/stools will be used during my small group reading rotations. They will build excitement for small group time and allow for movement while my students are busy sharpening their reading skills daily.
Having a choice of seating options gives students ownership of their learning and boosts motivation as well as engagement.
Being able to enjoy a cozy reading spot in class daily means a lot to my class in Nome, Alaska where winters are long, dark, and cold. These flexible seating options will benefit 18 children this year and many more in years to come.
My goal is to not only help my students gain the skills they need to become proficient readers but, more importantly, I would like them to fall in love with reading. What better way than by providing them with choice, variety, comfort, and movement in a carefully designed learning environment!
