My Project

As a Kindergarten teacher, I am a firm believer in providing a variety of hands-on learning activities for my students. There are many benefits to incorporating hands-on learning experiences: students become more engaged with their learning, they improve their social and problem-solving skills by working with others, and they practice and build upon skills they are learning in the classroom. All of the materials on this list will be used during structured small groups where students work with partners or in a small group with me. The alphabet chips will be used for word building, while the finger focus highlighters will be used during reading. The handheld mirrors will be used to teach sounds and phonics, focusing on the importance of how our mouth looks when making various sounds. With partners, students will use the CVC, CCVC, digraphs, and blends word building games which will promote reading and writing. The alphabetic "pop its" will be used for building words in a tactile way. With the use of a light table in our classroom, the cellophane paper will be used to create words and sentences! As you can see, there are so many ways this project will promote hands-on learning!

Flexible seating options, such as the floor seats, allow students to not only feel more comfortable in the classroom but also to take ownership of their environment.

It promotes a sense of community, where students have a voice in their learning.

My students are unique in that each of them learns best in his or her own way. By providing a variety of hands-on learning opportunities and seating options in the classroom, I am more able to meet the needs of all of my students.
