This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have a classroom full of big personalities and feelings. They come from many backgrounds and many of them from different districts. The children have many needs and I want to be sure I meet them. My goal for this project is to give my students flexible seating options and a comfortable, inviting place to read, study, and learn in groups, as well as providing stress toys for those with busy hands or big feelings.
The rug and cushions will give the kids the flexibility they need to grow their minds in comfort.
At the moment, I have no flexible seating. I allow them to stand or sit at their desks, and sometimes on the floor, which is hard linoleum and not especially comfortable or clean. Many of my students have a need to move- they struggle to sit still, and they don't have a place to do small group work or to curl up with a nice book during free time.
The fidgets will play a dual role. They will be winnable as classroom prizes, but a few of them will be given to my students whose IEP accommodations include access to such things. I also want to place a calming strip on every desk to encourage self-regulation. Your donations will help give my students everything they need to succeed.
