This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My fifth-grade students at BES are creative, inspired, and capable of academic success. They strive to do their best in the classroom by using the tools provided for them. Ninety-three percent of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Over 35% of my students receive educational assistance from Special Education or English as a Second Language program.
A traditional classroom environment works for some students, but most students need flexibility in their learning and extra organizational materials.
Basic tables and chairs, required assessments, fewer recess times, and lives stimulated by video games combine to develop students who are constantly moving and need optional seating.
My Project
The flexible seating choices such as the wobble chairs will enhance my students' focus. Also, students having supplies such as pencils and a stapler quickly available to them will allow for more time on task and learning opportunities.
This project with allow students to select their preferred seating and gives them the responsibility for what works best for their learning and work environment.
Students will be allowed to work around the room after they select their seating choice and gather materials needed to complete their assignments.
The ultimate goal is that students will be more successful in our classroom when they are allowed to make choices for seating and take ownership of their own learning.
