Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

After being in distance learning for almost 18 months, my students returned to school this year with a great desire to read. For the last seven months, I have seen my students go from not reading independently throughout distance learning to reading books like Harry Potter, Drama, Pax, Diary of A Wimpy Kid and Diary of an 8-Bit Warrior. The majority of our classroom books have been donated by wonderful donors through DonorsChoose throughout this school year.

The last couple of months has proven how much students have not only missed reading in general but also reading frequently.

Most of my students have read through a great majority of our classroom library books that interest them, so these additional books will once again expand our classroom library. With less than three months left of school, I want to continue encouraging my students to be avid readers as we prepare them to end the school year on a great note.

The cushions in my project will allow students to read comfortably on the floor. Many of them enjoy reading in nooks and spaces where they can concentrate and focus. The cushions will be a great alternative to their normal chairs and get them in the right mindset to read.
