My students need a variety of seating options, so that they can be successful learners and fully benefit from flexible seating implementation. Help them take ownership in their learning!
Having finished my 1st year at my elementary, I have fully realized how lucky I am to be part of such a wonderful school district, with students who are eager to come to school every day, motivated to learn. As part of the CUSD, the children in my 1st-grade classroom are part of a community with a "small town" feel, caring families, and high involvement. The demographic in our school is made up of a high percentage of white and Hispanic students. 50 percent of these children come from low-income families. My district also has a comprehensive ESL program for ELL students, which supplements their language learning while being immersed in the classroom.
No matter their demographic, family background, or academic performance, all of my students deserve to have the best possible experience while in the classroom.
I hope that, in having such a positive atmosphere, students can be a part of engaging learning experiences and remember 1st grade as a meaningful, happy time in their childhood.
My Project
Having these seating options in the classroom will motivate and engage my students from the very start next year. Benefits to this are endless, including giving students choices in their learning, keeping them comfortable, and engaged. Allowing students to pick the best place for them to do their best work.
As a progressive Early Childhood professional, I hope to have the opportunity to see the benefits that I have researched and continue to grow with the students in my classroom.
Not only would this Hispanic their academics, but I feel that behavior issues, usually caused by low motivation, would go down. Having the yoga mats, rockers, stability balls, and a variety of chairs would all help those that have a hard time sitting still or participating while in hard desk chairs all day.
Flexible seating would benefit classroom management and allow for smoother classroom transitions, and higher work completion.
