Flexible Seating 6th Grade

Help me give my students some flexible seating options. I have many students in Special Education and with ADHD that this would help tremendously.

My Project

I am a teacher for 6th grade English. I work at a public Title school in an area that's 98% low income. My students struggle with short attention spans, and I have many students with ADHD, ADD, etc. Traditional seating all day long can be tough for these kids. With these flexible seating options, my students will have options for where to sit for collaborative work, comfy spots to read, and a safe space to regulate their ever-changing emotions.

In my classroom, I teach my students the importance of mastering the skill of collaboration.

In most all jobs in society, group work or collaboration is an inevitable. Every job relies on workers coming together to achieve a common goal. With these new flexible seats, students can collaborate on more projects in class.

Reading is something that was once incredibly valued and has since diminished in it's prioritization. In my classroom, I set aside time for independent reading, and with these new seating options, students will look forward to getting comfortable and reading.

Finally, with the home environment many of my students have, their emotions are always unregulated, and many students come to school in "fight or flight" mode. These new flexible seating options will provide calming areas in the room for students to sit and reflect.
