Flexible Printing With a Twist!

My Project

In Science Lab, students from Kindergarten through 5th grade are transformed into scientists with science inquiry and teaching with intentionality. This project will help bring students a unique way to demonstrate their knowledge. 3D printers transform my students into engineers! The addition of flexible prints could compliment any of our Science lessons throughout the year! My students are very interested in 3D printing with TPU, the flexible filament, for many reasons. It is strong, yet bends easily. They hope to make durable things that require malleable material, such as jewelry, phone cases, and their own inventions to help around the classroom!

STEAM activities inspire children to pursue roles in Science when they grow up, especially girls, who are underrepresented in Science careers today.

Using STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Math) exposes students to creative ways to use art alongside the scientific process in a very unique style of problem solving! Imagine being able to create your own bug, and then act out how it would interact with the other bugs in its environment. Students could demonstrate their knowledge in a very tactile and interactive way!

My 550+ students are inquisitive, resourceful, and kind members of a small-town learning community. Many come from low-income households and it is not always easy for students to donate supplies to their homeroom teacher. As Science Lab is a 'Specials' class with no homeroom, it is even more difficult to seek donations that are enough to cover the needs of the entire school.
