My Students

I teach at a Title I elementary school that is over 80 years old. We lack many of the modern technologies of today's world. Over 95% of my students receive either free or reduced lunch.

My students put in a lot of effort to attend my school.

It is a medical magnet school so they ride a bus for over an hour to get to our school. We only have about 250 students so we are small and don't have the resources that a larger school might have.

My Project

My students come from high poverty homes. I want them to have the best classroom and learning experience. I know the brain learns better with movement therefore I want to provide a classroom where students feel comfortable moving around and sitting on the floor if they want. My floor is currently tiles. With the rugs, I will be able to provide a space for students to grab clipboards, lay on the rug and work out problems with their classmates. I also love to pull the class together as a group to talk about things, read to them, do number talks with them and the rug will give them a comfortable place to sit while we learn together. I know this item seems small, but I know it is one supply that will make one of the biggest impacts in my classroom.
