This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Students across the state and at all levels have been affected by COVID-19 in many ways. Lack of in person instruction has made our students struggle in academic areas, and struggle with the traditional way that a classroom is set up. Throughout the last couple of years we are seeing an influx of students with reading plans, and the gap of students on IEPs have grown. With that being said, this project will help our students with the highest needs in our school.
COVID-19 has brought challenges into the education system, and these items will even the playing field for our most at risk students.
At our school our learning specialist share a space to help support students. With that we need our own whiteboards and space to help guide our instruction. Obtaining the whiteboards would allow our students to be in small groups for instruction and this is a proven practice to help support these students.
While sharing a space can be tricky we also want to acknowledge that all of our students learn differently giving them opportunities to use flexible seating helps them choose their best learning space. We want to make sure that our classroom feels safe and the items on our list allows our students to pick books that they can access, listen to on level books when it is appropriate, and the items give them a sense of belonging in our classroom. During COVID-19 and online learning these opportunities were taken away from students and it affected their learning, and their sense of belonging at the school.
