Fifth graders are very social and work well together when they can be comfortable! They have such an enthusiasm when they can teach each other. They come to the school as the my first group of fifth graders. I have learned they work better with the option to move around. This is an exciting time for some, and a nervous time for others. They are excited to learn and are depending on their teacher, me. They want to explore as they learn. I need to provide that environment in the very best way I know possible.
My Project
Last year most classrooms in my district were restricted on seating arrangements due to Covid. The students weren't able to move around and sit where they want in the last few years. Emotionally, the students did struggle with this. I have students that are pretty active and like to move around. I have been wanting to get flexible seating started, but on a teacher budget that has already been maxed out, that hasn't been an option. I am wanting options for all the students in my class that have different needs. I know that movement has helped with the brain in studies. I think this could make an impact on some of my students that have struggled with structured and rigid seating assignments. I have learned that my original beliefs have changed, and without change there cannot be growth. I would like to grow as a teacher so my students can also grow.
