Flexible Freedom: Transforming the Art Room into a Creative Oasis

Help me give my students functionality to my art classroom with cozy floor cushions, lap desks and a rug, turning our art room into a comfy, creative zone where students can wiggle, work, and let their imagination fly!

My Project

The furniture in my art classroom is outdated, unstable, and not designed for today's learners. Many of the tables and chairs are over two decades old—wobbly, stained, and uncomfortable. My goal is to transform our classroom into a flexible learning environment where all students can create freely and comfortably.

With your support, I’ll be able to provide flexible seating options such as floor cushions, wobble stools, stackable chairs, and height-adjustable tables.

These items will allow students to choose how they learn best—whether standing, sitting, or moving throughout the space.

Flexible seating improves posture, focus, and collaboration. It’s especially beneficial for students with sensory needs or attention challenges. It also encourages responsibility and independence, as students take ownership of their workspace.

A creative space should be just that—creative. When students walk into my classroom, they should feel inspired, not restricted. Art is movement, expression, and innovation. But right now, the physical space is holding them back.

Flexible seating is more than a trend—it’s a research-supported approach to classroom design that helps students stay engaged, regulate emotions, and build community. For many of my students, especially those with special needs or trauma backgrounds, having choice in their environment is a game-changer.

Your generosity can help turn our traditional, outdated art room into a 21st-century creative studio where every child feels seen, supported, and free to express who they are.

I teach over 400 students each week, grades K-5, and each one deserves a space that makes them feel welcome, safe, and empowered to create. These young artists are full of ideas—they just need the right space to bring them to life.
