Flexible Floor Seating for Focused Minds and Meaningful Discussions

Help me give my students flexible seating options to support active learning. My student-led classroom uses Socratic Seminars for daily discussions and critical thinking. Students sit on the floor and would benefit from seating that supports their back.

My Project

In our middle school classroom, learning isn’t limited to desks and chairs — we often gather in a circle on the floor for discussions, collaboration, and reflection. These moments are some of the most powerful parts of our day. Sitting in a circle creates a sense of community, encourages every voice to be heard, and helps students engage more fully with each other and the material.

However, sitting on the hard floor can be uncomfortable and distracting, especially during longer discussions or activities.

That’s why I’m requesting flexible floor seating options like cushions, low chairs, and floor mats. These tools will help my students stay focused, comfortable, and more willing to participate.

Middle schoolers thrive when they have some control over their environment. Giving them comfortable, flexible seating options will support their physical needs while fostering a safe, inclusive space for academic conversations, group work, and independent learning.
