My Project
All of the students I work with have developmental delays that include students diagnosed with autism, down syndrome, other health impairments and all have deficits in speech/language skills. So many of the students that I work with in early childhood have not been in structured situations because of pandemic shutdowns. Because of their lack of exposure to pre-pandemic activities in conjunction with other diagnoses, they have not developed skills in several of the Developmental Domain areas. Students require adequate motor and sensory skills to maintain focus in traditional student chairs. My students struggle with trunk support and body awareness and control to maintain their focus for learning in traditional student seating. Flexible seating will help my students stay focused and engaged during seated tasks. The cube chairs will give younger students a more confined seat to help with body stability and fidgetiness to where they are able to focus on learning. The stackable arm chairs will still give students stability, but with a little less structure until they are able to maintain their bodies in a traditional student chair. These flexible seating options will help my students learn and stay engaged during seated learning activities. The hot glue gun, glue sticks, foam sheets will help with the creation of thematic manipulatives to keep the learning units fun and engaging and the organization cart and storage baggies will help keep the manipulatives organized.
