Flexible Classrooms: Providing the Learning Environment That Kids Need

My students need floor pillows to continue our full integration of flexible seating.

My Students

The students in our room are enrolled at an elementary school in Reno, Nevada. This is part of the state's second largest school district. The culture of our school is special and students maintain a high level of academic achievement and gain ample opportunities to work with the arts.

In our room, students work hard and strive to be on a path to college, career and civic readiness.

All students work with the Nevada Academic Content Standards, and our room places a strong emphasis on complex and rigorous tasks.

My Project

The students in Room360 have been working with flexible seating for the entire academic year. We have Hokki Stools, stability balls and standing tables. Students, however, choose not to use our kneeling table, because they find being on the floor for any extended period of time uncomfortable.

The floor pillows in this project would solve any concerns about being on the floor and ensure that flexible seating is fully integrated.

The research is clear. Students need seating options to increase engagement and academic performance. This project would allow for this outcome and create a 21st Century learning space for the children.
