My Students
The students at my school come from and have a wide range of backgrounds, experience, and capabilities. They are young and eager; loving to to learn new things, participate in projects and meet the rigor and expectations set by their school.
The majority of students at my school are very active and require movement and 21st first century engagement methods and strategies to access their greatest learning potential.
They are easily encouraged to let out energy in productive and playful ways during appropriate and structured times in and outside of the classroom at school.
Finally, first grade students at my school are ready to learn and deserve the best teaching methods and environment in which to learn and tap into their academic potential. They are friendly, eager, hard-working, happy children, who learn best in a positive and rigorous classroom.
My Project
The ability for students in my classroom to access a variety of choices for seating during independent, group, partner and whole group lessons and activities will help focus, engage, and motivate 21st century learners.
Students need to feel uninhibited by discomfort in hard seating and unlimited in their ability to find comfortable seating to feel safe, secure and success in the classroom.
I want to provide students with a more "homey" atmosphere in the classroom, where they can find many places to sit, stand, or lounge while learning and participating in instruction, practicing important skills and behaviors, and engaging in meaningful partner and group exploration lessons and activities.
The wobble chairs, balance balls and pillows provided by this project will be accessed by students in many areas of the classroom. These different seating options can allow for more student choice, which allows for more student ownership and accountability of the learning. It will also allow these students opportunity for self-discovery about what works best for them and to be comfortable during academic work.
