My Students

My kindergarten students are learning and growing in a short period of time. They come from diverse backgrounds and bring different strengths to the classroom. My school has many students who come from low income households and have not been able to attend preschool to prepare them for school.

Each child is encouraged to develop at his or her own pace.

I love engaging them in conversations, asking them to describe what they are doing, help them make new friends, and provide a variety of activities to spark imagination and facilitate learning. Exploring new ideas is very exciting for these little scholars.

I focus on the fact that every child is unique that learning can be fun. There is so much for young students to explore, I never want them to be bored with learning. I always want my students to leave my classroom knowing everything they need to be successful in first grade.

My Project

Children need to move. Flexible seating allows my kindergarten students to do this. A flex-space round floor table will provide another place for my young scholars to work and explore the concepts they are eager to learn.

Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment.

Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed. Physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior. Any time I can let my students get up and move to a new location, gives them a chance to move their bodies and get a little bit of activity.
