This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our elementary school truly feels like a family, comprised of our staff and our 650 students, pre-k through fifth grade. Here in South Texas, along the US-Mexico border, a majority of our students are English learners and are economically disadvantaged.
Our students are so thoughtful, creative, and resilient.
They love to read, and get excited about discovering new books. As the school librarian, I support all students and staff. I aim to make this year's library lessons powerful and engaging, as we return to in-person learning, with safety precautions in place.
My Project
Studies have shown that flexible seating is a powerful tool in an educational setting. These pieces of furniture will provide students with options for cozy, flexible seating in our library. Whether reading, researching, or working on projects, students will be able to get comfortable with these chairs, pillows, and wobble cushions. Once our students are comfy, they will be more able to focus and to enjoy their own space. I want to ensure that our library is a place of comfort and joy for our students, and these items will help to achieve that goal!
