Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Digital filmmaking is what I teach, and I would love to have a better monitor for my Dell PC computer. My students have 15" monitors that are too small to show the entire image of the films that they make. If they had at least one 20" monitor, it would greatly enhance their filmmaking experience by allowing them to see what they are doing. Our Continuation school budget is too small for us to buy a monitor, so I am hoping that we can find a benefactor at Donorschoose.org.
My 75 students share materials at our small school, and they often sit four or five deep at a tiny computer monitor. It's hard for them to see the film they are working on, but if they had a large monitor they could work more efficiently and more creatively.
The arts are vital to all students, but particularly to Continuation school students who often flourish in the creative areas such as film and digital technology. Additionally, we are a Title 1 school and my students come from underpriveliged families who are low-income and live in gang-infested urban neighborhoods. They can't afford this type of equipment at home, so school is the only place they can use and learn it.
Our school is the bright light in many of my kids' lives, and I would love to be able to enhance their school experience by giving them the tools they need to learn how to compete in the job world. With Donorschoose, I hope to give my students what they deserve.
