My Students
"I'm ready to publish Mrs. G but the printer is out of ink!" Words that make teachers cringe and students moan. We hear this far too often during our writing workshop. Keeping a steady supply of toner for our printer is a real challenge.
I teach 24 curious third grade scientists at a small Title 1 school (with approximately 350 students) and an amazing and supportive principal.
My students are eager to learn and their brains are sponges that absorb any and all information given to them. Everything is a potential investigation/experiment to them, so I strive to provide my students with as many learning and project based opportunities as possible. I enhance the school curriculum and students' intrinsic motivation to learn more by infusing STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) correlations and activities whenever possible. Because of our size, funding levels are not as high as other schools that have larger enrollments, so grants become an integral part of how I obtain materials to supplement learning experiences. I truly believe that the future lies in our children, that they have virtually unlimited potential, and my job is to enable them to reach it.
My Project
My 21st Century learners use technology every day in our classroom. I am requesting 30 flash drives, 5 packs of toner, 1 classpack of markers, 26 boxes of highlighters, 50 notebooks, and 2 packs of folder to keep creative juices flowing during writer's workshop. My students are eager to save and publish all of their work, from book reports to complicated research projects and they will use the flash drives to keep their collections and create an electronic portfolio. However, the challenge is keeping an ample supply of toner for our printer. My students know that they can only print after their work has been "approved" so they are not wasting toner. My students will use the highlighters to edit their drafts, and the markers to illustrate their stories once they are printed and published. They are just so motivated that they are producing more and more work! A teacher's dream! A major part of the curriculum is creative and expository writing. The materials requested in this proposal are an integral part of our writing center.
This donation will make an immediate impact on the learning environment in my classroom and enhance the sense of accomplishment and pride my students feel every time they print their work.
Since we have a printer that is dedicated for student use, productivity and creativity has increased.
With your help, our class will have the materials they need during writing workshop to create and edit their written work and have enough toner to continue to produce and publish.
