Flashcards are a Phenomenal Factor in Math Facts Fluency!

My students need 25 sets of addition and 25 sets of subtraction flashcards.

This project is fully funded

I have a class of very inquisitive and motivated second graders in an inner city school. In this precarious economic situation, I hear many comments about "my mommy lost her job and she was crying". Fortunately, our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch; otherwise, I know they would be hungry and probably wouldn't receive adequate meals. We have many immigrants from hotspots throughout the world. Last year, we had many students come to us directly from Burma. This year, we are seeing a lot of children from Thailand. Most do not have the basic necessities of life. We also have refugees from Somalia, some who have been here for about three years. It is heartwarming to see the progress these students make.

We work hard to provide academic opportunities for all of our students despite the limited funds made available to us. I give my students math fact tests every week, and they chart their progress. However, despite the daily practice, most still count on their fingers.

Last year, I submitted a proposal for math flash cards which was funded. I sent the flashcards home as I wanted to give my students the same opportunities other students have. My students last year did indeed improve in their mastery of addition and subtraction facts. I'm certain that having the flashcards at home was a key factor in their progress.

Your help in providing a class set of addition and subtraction flashcards will make such a difference in my students' lives! The self-confidence they will gain by not having to rely on their fingers will help them make significant progress in other areas of math. I can guarantee you that my second graders would be thrilled to receive such a useful gift!
