Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have all been identified as highly gifted. These children have special needs and require a differentiated instructional program to provide them with a challenging and rigorous academic setting. My students are inquisitive and thoughtful. They love to learn! It is important to bring in as many supplemental materials as possible to stimulate their minds and encourage their exploration of new concepts.
As a teacher, it is my job to meet the unique needs of my students by helping them to build on all aspects of learning including their social-emotional needs.
According to John Gottman Ph.D., "In the last decade or so, science has discovered a tremendous amount about the role emotions play in our lives. Researchers have found that even more than IQ, your emotional awareness and abilities to handle feelings will determine your success and happiness in all walks of life, including family relationships."
My Project
We are looking forward to an exciting new start to this school year. Projects and activities that include cooperative learning will be a major focus at the start and throughout this school year. The students will use these flags to help them represent their group and their strengths. Giving the students the opportunity to identify and share their strengths with each other will help to build self-esteem. Students enjoy school when they feel a part of a community where others recognize their individual strengths and they can work together to accomplish different goals. Focusing on cooperative learning in this Social Emotional Learning style gives the students the ability to learn life lessons in an exciting team building environment.
These flags will be one aspect that helps to represent each of the different groups and remind them of their strengths as we move through the year.
We all know that children can learn so much from each other and I have seen how cooperative learning can positively affect my students’ work and demeanor and know this is just one step towards an amazing, productive school year.
