My Students
My students from Centerville, Ohio, are part of a literacy support program that helps struggling readers and writers gain the needed skills and strategies to become confident, independent learners.
Our students are enthusiastic, love to learn, have loads of potential, are diverse in many ways, and have some unique needs that keep me striving for fun and meaningful ways to accelerate their growth in reading and writing.
I thoroughly enjoy helping to foster a love of reading and writing that will benefit them for a lifetime.
My Project
Children deserve a safe and comfortable space that helps them feel ready to learn. I would like to create an environment where at-risk kindergarten and first-grade students can enjoy reading and writing, sitting on a soft, fuzzy area rug. I want my students to have an ideal environment for learning.
Research suggests that classrooms that feel more like home help young learners feel comfortable, relaxed, inspired, and empowered to learn.
This rug will help me create a physical space that is student-centered, supports them emotionally, and hopefully leads to them making effective learning choices. I think that being mindful of students' feelings and making thoughtful, simple changes in an environment can help children feel ready to learn. My hope is that my room will be a beautiful place that makes them feel good to be at school!
