Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the gym. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things exciting in physical education.
My students are eager to learn new physical activities and sports.
They are very energetic and eager to participate in all types of sports and activities.
They like to move, they enjoy learning and they love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." From the minute they walk in the gym, I focus on their potential and growth. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experience during their time in physical education.
My Project
Our Physical Education Classes are in need of an iPad to record the students Fitness Testing in the Fitness Gram software.
The students and I will be able to assess their cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, flexibility, and body position in all Physical Education classes.
The iPad will assist in assessing my students quickly and more effectively. We will be able to immediately apply the fitness scores into the students on the iPad. It will also lessen the amount of paperwork tremendously that is used to administer the assessments to all my students.
I'm very excited to share the experience with all of my students.
