Fitness in Fitbits

My students need Fitbits to track their exercise as well as a way to charge them, bands to differentiate them, and a safe place to store them at the end of the day.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Bird's classroom raised $927

My Students

My students attend school at a Title I school, so a majority of the students come from families with low incomes. Some of them are learning English as their second language and having hands-on and very visual learning experiences are best to really help them get the vocabulary and be successful as they are in the later years of elementary school.

My students are full of excitement about learning and love coming to school!

The students I work with are full of great questions and really care about doing their best. Some of them are dealing with some challenges in life, but they are all wonderful kids and a joy to work with!

My Project

My students, along with many kids these days, are very intrigued and fascinated by new technology. I personally bought myself a Fitbit to track my activity and heart rate. A few weeks after I got it one of our vocabulary words for the week was pulse. I typically show my students how to find their pulse and then looked down at my Fitbit HR and let one of my students try it on to have their pulse measured for a minute. It was heaven for that lucky student, and that is what gave them the idea to suggest I get more of them!

These Fitbits will be such a privilege for my students to wear!

They will be able to use their step count to do all sorts of math and work with place value. I will be able to teach such personal and meaningful lessons on health that they will get feedback and see their heart rates and activity levels. I am requesting 3 different pairs of matching color to "team" up different students and make it fun for peer-to-peer learning and cooperation that might not be best friends all the time. This will help the students wearing the Fitbits stay active and encourage each other to move throughout the day. It will also help keep in the forefront of my mind the need my students have for activity and movement as they are at school each day! The watch box and screen protectors will ensure they stay looking and working their best and with the multi USB charging ports, the students can be responsible to make sure the Fitbits are charged and ready to go each day!
