Fitness Here We Come!

My students need bean bags, yarn balls, and rhino skin balls to develop physical fitness.

My Students

Each year we have more and more students who have families struggling to make it and who often have to move in with relatives after a job loss. Many also come from military families. The students at our school really want to make good choices and we have a staff that is working to help guide students. Our staff continually goes above and beyond to help their students. The school is based on the idea that we are all part of the same team, and we work towards helping all students. Almost 100% of certified staff work as mentors during their personal time to give students who need extra help the attention they need, whether it is an academic or a personal need. We are working hard to make sure our students are prepared for the future. We have added a MakerSpace and are now working to extend our STREAM clubs.

My Project

It is well established that students that are physically fit do better in school. Students that develop healthy lifestyles as a child will help them develop lifelong fitness habits.

It is important that our physical education program not only motivate students to want to be physically fit, but to also be a well rounded program that addresses all the core components as found in the Presidential Fitness program.

We use the Fitness Gram system in our school, and our goal is to have activities that work students towards reaching their highest potential in the tested areas.

We post student successes and class standings, and work on promoting students encouraging each other, instead of trying to prove who is best. It is important to build character, as well as fitness.

We have a morning walking/running club which is very popular. We also have competitions with other elementary schools in hockey and archery. The emphasis in all activities is to understand and develop fitness.

The rhino balls, yarn balls, and bean bags will be used with students in a number of games and activities to develop skills in coordination and fitness. These are also good for some of our students with special physical needs. It is important to include all students to the extent it is safe for them to participate.

We want our students to enjoy fitness so that they are more likely to pursue it throughout their lives.
