This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Fitness is an area all schools need to get involved in. Students lack awareness of eating well and working out. Young ladies work out different from the young men and need motivation and opportunities to do so in a means to promote healthier and more active lifestyles.

The student population at my school consists of Hispanic and African American students who eat poorly and lack knowledge of eating healthier and being physically fit.

Many of the young ladies in the Fitness for Girls program enjoy working out with just girls and learning how to eat healthier, get in shape, and become physically fit. These young ladies need motivation and positive opportunities after school that not only keep them off the streets and from the negative environments they face when they leave school, but opportunities to help them change the way they eat and take care of their health. Many of these girls need physical fitness activities that can help them loose weight as many are over weight and unaware of how to work out and get in shape.

My Project

Many of these girls come from families who are overweight, have high cholesterol and are diabetic. Fitness for Girls aims to help students get in shape, loose weight and change their eating habits. The resources we are requesting are materials the young ladies have expressed an interest in, but funding from the school is unavailable to purchase these items. Kickboxing and boxing is a great means of burning calories and working out.

My project is important because it changes the culture of the young ladies.

It teaches them to live healthier lifestyles and become engaged in positive activities as well as physical fitness activities that they lack. They build friendships, responsibility and team building skills as well.
