Fitness for Athletics!

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work an elementary school/middle school where I serve as the Athletic Director at my campus. My students work hard at their grades to make sure they are eligible to play after school sports. Students in grades 6th-8th grade are the primary grades that get to participate in after school athletics.

Athletics are important and I would like my teams which include boy's/girl's football, boy's/girl's soccer, boy's/girl's basketball and boy's/girl's softball, to start doing lifting workouts along with their sport specific practices.

I have had many students ask me if we have workout equipment, and I have to let them know we do not. I would like start getting them ready for High School Athletics by providing them workout equipment and teach them how to workout to benefit their athletics and live a healthy life because they can take this knowledge and apply it to themselves, even after their athletic seasons are done.

These athletes are special in their own ways and have their own personalities and abilities and I would like to support them any way that I can!

My Project

I am the Athletic Director for a Middle School. With funding hard to come by, we have the essentials to hold practices and games, but my middle school students would love to start working out as part of their practice plans for athletics. We host both boys and girls teams which include football, soccer, basketball, and softball. I plan on having open gyms after school and also coincide with sport practices, where I can set up the gym like a fitness circuit or a gym, and have the students workout. Full body workouts will benefit my athletes in all sports they play. Teams will be able to use the body bars to work on lower body strength and in turn will help with power while playing basketball and jumping for rebounds or with my running backs when they are avoiding the defense while running the ball. The power tower will work on core strength and upper body strength. Pulling down rebounds in a basketball game, or catching a ball in the air athletes need upper body strength. In turn, they can improve on strength, and endurance and stay in their health fitness zone. I will be able to teach them proper technique, what muscles are being used and how this will benefit them when they are playing sports. I know a lot of my students plan to play in high school, and I want to make sure I provide them with as much as I can to help them become more successful. They will then be ready to play sports at the upper levels. The fitness equipment requested will greatly benefit my athletes. They will be able to improve on core strength, balance and agility, upper body and lower body strength that will benefit them on the playing field.
