The students of our school are a cohort of diverse, intelligent, and hardworking students from around the New York City Metropolitan area. Our school is a selective, public, college preparatory school with a focus on science, math, technology, and engineering that provides a challenging academic experience. It prepares students for careers in science, math, and engineering.
My classroom is not only a place of challenge and discovery, but also a place where students come to de-stress and learn everyday life skills.
Inside and out of the classroom, they are inquisitive learners, never afraid to ask how our world works. They are also from very diverse backgrounds and come to school with various experiences that further deepen our classroom learning.
My Project
This project will aim at helping students lead more healthy lives. With these fitbits we are going to do in depth study into heart rate response during rest and exercise as well as appropriate amounts of sleep and recovery. This long term student will help initiate change for better lifestyles for years to come. In addition, students will learn about long term data collection like real life scientists and researchers. This will employ and practice the scientific process.
This research project is also a great way to introduce the female population to both science, technology, and athletics in one educational process.
Typically these individuals are absent from these fields and with this long term study we hope to increase the amount of female participation and affect long term outcomes that these females will go into these professional areas.
