My students need Fitbit activity trackers to increase physical fitness and gather data for real-life math.

My Students
My students attend a Title I school, so a majority of the students come from families with low incomes. Some of them are learning English as their second language, and having hands-on and very visual learning experiences are best to really help them get the vocabulary necessary to be successful in school.
My students are full of excitement about learning and love coming to school!
The students I work with are full of great questions and really care about doing their best. Some of them are dealing with challenges in life, but they are all wonderful kids and a joy to work with!
My Project
I would like to allow some more of my students to monitor their fitness levels and encourage them to increase their fitness levels. It is a commonly known problem that there are children who are not getting nearly enough physical activity. Fitbits make it fun to move and run around. I am hopeful to allow students a chance to check these out in the morning and return them at the end of the day to see how many steps they can take during a day at school.
Not only is movement and activity good physically for students, but it seems to keep students more engaged in lessons and learning throughout the day.
I want to use the data these Fitbit trackers will gather to do math. How many more steps did John take today than yesterday? What patterns do you notice in the number of steps of these three students? What fun students can have with these real-life numbers and questions! Plus, having my students wearing a Fitbit will keep me on my toes to plan lessons with more movement and getting students up out of their seats more often!
