My Project
Every year I participate in a program called Trout in the Classroom that, in partnership with the Department of Fish and Wildlife, allows us to hatch and raise trout in our classroom with the purpose of teaching students to care about our watershed and environment. My students love science and doing research and have a natural curiosity about everything. This year's class is very special particularly because of how caring and compassionate they are.
For this project, students will get to make colorful fish print shirts to remind them of the care and love they put into raising our trout which is why we keep our environment clean and free of litter.
We will receive eggs, a fish tank, and all of the supplies we need to hatch our trout. Students will get to watch as our trout eggs hatch and fish grow from egg to alevin and then to fry before we have to say goodbye and release them into a local watershed. At the release students always notice the condition of the surrounding areas and pick up trash and litter to ensure their trout will have a safe, happy, and healthy life.
The ultimate goal of this project is to make students aware of the ripple effect of their actions on the environment and how they can help create a healthier planet for the future.
