Fishing for Fitness

Help me give my students fishing poles to experience fishing and its benefits. Fishing is a low-impact form of exercise, improving cardiovascular health, building strength, and enhancing balance. It can reduce stress, improve mood, and promote mental clarity.

My Project

My students mean the world to me so I am always looking for new ways to motivate them to be more active in gym. Our school is located near a pond and many of my PE students over the years have expressed an interest in fishing. I recently went through the process of getting the approval but am in need of equipment.

I have found that fishing with my students has provided motivation to improve attendance to early morning class and given many of my students a much needed mental break.

Many students need a break in the mental learning of the school day to help regulate moods and retain information. I like provide them with a safe space to explore and learn new things while taking a breather from the indoors classroom and finding non-traditional fitness activities.

After returning to school from COVID lockdown, there has been an issue with overall attendance and students being on time along with many suffering from mental health issues. As a teacher I strive to provide my students with ample opportunity to succeed in the classroom and provide them with skills they can take into the real world. I see fishing as a way to help my students succeed.
