This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a highly impoverished urban community. Most students arrive at school without supplies, clean clothes, or breakfast. Despite these struggles, my students still come to school looking to learn.

My goal is to make technology and hands-on learning more accessible to all students.

Due to the high poverty rate of the district, teachers are not given a budget to order supplies for our classrooms. I purchase many items with my own money, as do so many teachers around the country.

My Project

These materials will service students in six STEAM classes ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. The goal is to create a classroom environment where students feel welcome and comfortable so that they feel more willing to take risks and make mistakes. A hydroponics system will allow students to learn the relationship between plants and animals as well as create a sense of ownership and responsibility. Snap Circuits provide students with a fun and engaging opportunity to create working electrical circuits.

Hands-on experiences have been proven to help students learn more effectively and open their eyes to possible career paths for the future.
