it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk through the doors of my elementary school ready to learn. They are eager learners that use the resources available to them to become better readers. They know that to be successful they must become better readers. They are taught to love reading and use it every day as a source of enjoyment.
I work at an elementary school that is located in rural Indiana.
We have amazing support from our families.
Even with family support additional money is needed to provide my students with resources to be amazing readers.
My Project
This will be an excellent resource to start the year. The novel, Fish In A Tree" focuses on a girl who struggles to read. She develops a strong trusting bond with a teacher. It also focuses on setting goals and doing what it takes to achieve those goals. It will help reinforce the Growth Mindset and empathy that lays a foundation for my students.It is very hard to find a novel that 6th grade students can connect with. I was fortunate enough to read this book and immediately knew this was my beginning of the school year novel. The rich writing and details make it easy for my students to connect with characters.
Many of my past classes have struggled with making a connection with other students.
They lack communication skills and tend not to work well as a team. This book reinforces both concepts.
