My Students

"What are we learning today?!" is often heard in our first grade lines as we enter our classrooms each morning. First graders have an endless supply of energy and excitement to learn and are always ready for something new! Our school serves students in K-8 grades, with a large portion receiving free or reduced lunch. We provide a challenging academic program and have earned an A rating for many years! As a Title One school, many of our little ones are facing challenges both at home and in the classroom. As early childhood educators, we strive to create a learning environment that is safe, engaging and fun!

Our first graders are curious about their world and are eager to share what they are learning!

From the minute they walk through the door, learning is the focus and we work hard to build each other's strengths and support each effort to improve! Economic challenges should never be a factor to determine our student's success. Engaging, purposeful materials and learning experiences are the key to providing our students with the tools they need to succeed. We hope to provide each one with a positive experience each day!

My Project

These fun, engaging, developmentally appropriate learning games, big books and activities are just what first graders need to get excited about reading! Rhyming, sequencing, and retelling are a big part of our day and just one way we grow as readers! Word building, phonics, letter recognition, and creating simple sentences help us to grow as writers through reading and spelling.

These big books and activities allow firsties to practice reading books they can truly interact with through guided and independent learning opportunites! First graders love to read and learn with a buddy! Center activities and big books are perfect for partners and small groups. They are able to practice how to participate in conversations as they share what they are reading and learning!
