This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a first year teacher and am looking forward to meeting my first class. I teach second grade and will have 30 second graders. My class also includes many special needs students in my mainstream classrooms for all or part of the day.

As a teacher in an inner city school, that is receiving limited funding, my students are faced with several challenges inside the classroom.

Despite the challenges that they face, I am looking to give them the education they deserve. They are our future and I want to give them a great start to their long successful career.

My Project

I have requested some fundamentals to get my first classroom set up with some of the basic things I will need as a first year teacher. In my request I have included many math manipulatives that will enable our math time to be hands on, concrete, and interactive. have also requested a rug that will enhance the social/emotional development of my students by supporting our class values. The rug (a bilingual rug) provides a spot for each student, but unlike squares, reminds students that our space is communal. Learning how to be a share space with peers is an important life skill to develop at this age.

These clocks, tiles and counters will make our math time exciting and developmentally appropriate.

The granting of this request will allow me to start off my year prepared to be the best teacher I can be, and will give me the tools I need with which to do so.
