Help me give my students books for their classroom library that offer inclusive and representative choices. As well as favorite books, such as the 15-Book Collection.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a first-year teacher preparing to welcome my 4th grade class, I am excited to build a classroom library that reflects both a love for reading and the incredible diversity of the students I’ll be teaching. My school district is a vibrant community made up of students from a wide range of cultural, linguistic, and family backgrounds. Each of my students brings a unique story, perspective, and identity into the classroom, and I want them to feel seen, valued, and celebrated.
To support this, I’m working to create a library that not only includes popular and engaging titles but also highlights culturally responsive books—stories that reflect the lives of my students, their classmates, and people from all over the world.
These books will help students build empathy, expand their understanding of others, and develop pride in who they are. When students see themselves in the pages of a book, it sends a powerful message: you matter, and your story deserves to be told.
Adding these titles to our classroom will support an inclusive learning environment where every child can find joy, connection, and inspiration in reading.
