This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are all in moderate and severe special education and I am working hard to gain all the necessary materials for their education to be as accessible as possible. This means taking a deeper dive into their behavioral needs by factoring in sensory equipment to regulate them when needed and visual support that can be be printed and laminated to assist transitions throughout the day. Label makers and school supplies are vital for my classroom so that the students are able to participate through academic activities. This can look like having a big selection of pencils, highlighters, and crayons, while also utilizing the label makers as a way for students to participate that are yet to write with a pencil.

My goals for this project are very simply- supply my students with the tools they need to succeed, a task that can feel extremely daunting as a first year teacher.

Within the classroom, this looks like accommodating tools, sensory items, lighting changes, and classroom supplies that will all be used and loved by the direct students in my classroom. This project is extremely student centered- which is intentional as it matches the environment within our classroom.

My students are special and important because they are loaded with potential, just like any other student within our school. Their needs are just met through different accommodations, modifications and tools that are not in a typical classroom. This makes me extremely passionate to show the world what these students are capable of and how much fabulous they are through specialized instruction. I want to do this because I know that they can- we just have to get started!
