First Year Social Emotional Teacher for an Entire Elementary School

Help me give my students the tools that they need to help grow their social-emotional learning skills. I am a first-year teacher who will be teaching these important life skills to our whole school, over 450 students.

My Project

I am a first-year social-emotional arts teacher for an elementary school in Nebraska. I have the extremely important and impactful job of teaching our diverse elementary students, over 450, the necessary social-emotional skills they will need for their whole lives.

We live in a world where some of these skills are being lost, but studies are showing and proving how important these skills are.

Not only for greater academic achievement. But also to continue teaching empathy and compassion to today's youth.

The materials listed will be used to craft some social-emotional lessons that will be beneficial to our elementary kiddos. The younger students will be able to use the Kwik Sticks to draw some of their feelings and how their body feels when they are experiencing the different emotions. Our older students will be able to use the watercolor paints. The whole school will be able to do a project with the clay to create something that makes them feel happy. We will then use those creations to display during parent-teacher conferences! We will be able to use the set of Little Spot of SEL books, Mental Health 6 book sets, The Respectful Robot, and Just Now I Feel Angry books to craft lesson plans for the younger students to explain different feelings. The Magical Yet and Curious Why are two amazing books that I will use to promote a growth mindset within the students. The Sticky Situation cards will be used to discuss how they would handle the situations. The Kids' book on Diversity will help to talk about and promote diversity within our school.
