This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have moderate to severe disabilities and many of them are currently non-verbal. It would be amazing to have toys and equipment that would allow me to give them first hand experiences with objects that can help them build independent living and social skills.
Our class is a program for students with moderate to severe autism.
We use our students interests to engage them in learning social, independent living, and academic skills. My students enjoy learning through hands on activities and through play.
As a new teacher, I am beginning to incorporate many new ideas and activities into our curriculum. Having more materials in our class would help me give my students the high quality learning environment that they deserve.
Our school is fairly new. It provides a welcoming and supportive environment for my students. Students in my class participate in all school wide activities, work, and play with general education students daily.
My Project
My students will use the toy kitchen during our social skills portion of the day. During this time students play together as our classroom staff models turn taking, collaboration, and proper use of the toys. We help our students learn social skills and pretend play skills. These skills are essential with our students. If we can help them make progress with these skills we can give them a better quality of life. They will be able to play and socialize more successfully with Thier typically developing peers.
Donations to this project will help me create an interactive and realistic learning experience.
It will be a great start to many improvements and enhancements I plan to make to my program. This project will impact my students lives greatly. It will help bring them closer to becoming independent adults.
