This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This is my first year as an art teacher and since school began I have really got the chance to see how much kids love art and love coming to my class. I think COVID-19 greatly impacted these students because they did not get to physically come to a class and express themselves with painting, crafting, coloring, and etc. Art gives the kids the opportunities to express how they are feeling and lets them get to socialize with other. When kids come to art they are allowed to talk amongst each-other about what they are making and help bounce ideas off of each-other to be creative and imaginative.

These supplies will help ensure that I am able to provide them with the tools they need to be creative as can be.

I have added scissors that are easier for my special needs students to use. Play-doh, sensory toys, and rolling pins as well for them to help them come to a different classroom and still have things that help calm them. Step stools for my sink because the kinder and preschool students have a hard time reaching my sink to wash hands after painting.

After coming in my classroom I realized how quickly students go through the supplies that were here like colored pencils to come in and get to free draw and color. My older students really enjoy using sharpies to outline some of there drawings as well. The little ones love markers and feathers and pom poms. Water color was something I learned they also love but seeing over 500 kids a week it does go fast.

Overall the supplies that are provided will be to help all my kids be able to gain those social and creative skills that were lost due to COIVD-19.
