My Project
I am a first year 7th grade science teacher that wants to provide students with more STEM opportunities. I have added lots of STEM activities (Legos, various blocks, magnetic tiles, puzzles, etc.) to the list as well as basic classroom needs. I do not have a set of classroom scissors, which students use almost daily when adding resources to their lab notebooks. Because of our notebooks, we also go through glue very frequently causing myself to buy it near the end of the year. I also do not have spare headphones to let students borrow when giving additional audio resources.
My goal for this project is to make the classroom a strong learning environment for all types of students.
STEM Fridays are something I have been wanting to implement, but I simply don't have the resources to make it happen. It fosters creativity, problem solving, and collaboration skills.
I have a wide variety of students with different needs. I have lots of IEP, 504, and ESL students, which provide a unique challenge being a first year teacher. However, I value creating strong relationships with them, and it has definitely paid off. Students love coming to science because of all the hands on activities we get to do, but I would love to provide them with more STEM opportunities.
