My Students
Hello, everyone! Thank you for visiting my DonorsChoose.org page. Last year, I was hired at my school mid-year and this will be my first full year. The school at which I teach is a District 75 school in a 6:1:1 self-contained classroom located in a low-income area. My students range from ages 5-7 and they are diagnosed with autism. These students benefit from a multi-sensory classroom environment and differentiation in instruction to meet their intellectual, emotional and social needs.
My Project
I am choosing materials to start off my classroom year fun, engaging and an environment in which they can learn. These materials will enhance their literacy, writing, and phonemic awareness skills. I chose materials that will help me provide the best resources for my children to enhance their abilities whether it be reading or writing. My vision is to use these as small group activities as well as centers when they are able to grasp the content themselves. I also want to foster independence for my children and I believe these materials will help because they do not require much planning other than teaching them how to interact with the activity or game. My students thrive on hands-on activities and enjoy them so I know that these materials will not be a waste in my classroom. To give you more of a vision, I will use the magnetic sight word board as a material for when I am teaching and reviewing sight words. The rhyming houses will be used as a literacy center so they will be able to identify rhyming words on their own. The pre-writing board and write the letter activity center will be used as a writing center so they can form letters on their own for the students with that goal. I want the book baggies so they can have the ability to choose their own books that they like to read by themselves. The classroom caddy is to keep materials organized within the classroom.
