My students need personal partitions for exams, math manipulatives, and plastic menu holders for sentence stems to further their work in math and science.
A typical day in my classroom consists of two sessions of science class for 5th graders and two sessions of math. The students rotate between my class and their literacy class. My goal is to see student growth in the subjects of math and science.
The students are eager to learn, however due to the high free and reduce lunch percentage (83%) students do not have the resources to obtain the appropriate school supplies.
There is a 41% ELL population at my school. These students thrive to learn the language and excel in school. These students just need the appropriate tools to do so. These students are enthusiastic about learning new science and math concepts and only lack in the supplies to do so.
My Project
The math manipulatives are essential for having hands on representation of fractions. These equivalency cubes will let the students compare fractions and actually physically make equivalent fractions. Most of the math lessons require white board use and the students do not come prepared with dry erase markers. The class set of dry erase markers will give each student a chance to answer math problems. These students are very proud of their work on assessments. The testing partitions will be used to keep their hard work on assessments to themselves and prevent cheating
The donations will help these students get the hands on practice that they need to better understand fractions.
These manipulative will help me reach multiple learning styles and keep the students engaged.
