This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a school built upon tradition, hard work and drive, but we don't all run! This is the typical response from my students, who are proud of the community they come from. My students are eager to learn new activities that aren't just about running.

An important part about our physical education program is instilling lifelong fitness goals and education to our students.

Part of this is learning the importance of just one step, two step, three! I would like to have a class set of pedometers and use this as a tool to teach students how a simple day around campus provides them the basic step count to give them a kick start to lifelong fitness.

My Project

Students will wear the pedometers during class, and after activities they will collect their data and analyze their workout. From there they will be able to determine how to modify their activities/workouts.

They will also have the ability to wear them throughout the day and collect data and examine how their daily activities affect their fitness levels.

Using this information, students can modify their daily routines to increase their fitness levels, like instead of driving to the corner store they can take a brisk walk.

These pedometers also have the capabilities to determine heart rate, so this can even be beneficial to our unit when we talk about heart health!
