My Students
The students in my class are young and inquisitive. They are culturally diverse and come from different economical backgrounds. My students live in a low socioeconomic area and attend a Title I school, at which over half of the students receive free or reduced priced breakfast and lunch.
In my Math 180 class, many of them are identified as struggling learners in mathematics.
Despite their struggles, they are always ready to take on new challenges.
Every one of my students has the potential to unlock the mathematician in themselves. My middle schoolers enjoy being creative by expressing themselves through hands-on activities and through visual arts. I am impressed with their ability to tackle real life mathematical problems using different types of strategies learned in class.
My Project
My students will the tablet to utilize and enhance their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) skills during this project. They will explore real-world issues and solve authentic problems using digital tools and resources.
Teamwork makes the dream work.
During the preparation period, the team will use the tablet to work as real engineers - they will plan, build, program, and document the team's work. They will use it to attain solution-oriented, craft, organizational and social skills that they need before and during the tournament. Donations towards the project would enable my students to use materials they would not have a chance to use in everyday life and see first-hand how they can grow with the technological world around them.
