Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Despite some students having to face challenges at home, I have explained to my students that this is a safe heaven where they can come to learn and develop life saving skills and friendships. All students are encouraged to begin their day with a warn smile and a positive attitude before we get our day started. I greet each student with a fist bump and with a cheerful, "Good Morning!" If a student isn't ready to acknowledge me, he/she gets sent back to the line to reflect on the importance of coming in ready for a new adventure.

I teach at a Title I school in Las Vegas where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast, lunch, and supper.

Despite some challenges and hardships, my students are eager to begin their day to learn and try their best. They want to be recognized as individuals and that school is key to have an opportunity so that they can be the first to attend college and/or trade school and be prepared to a better future.

My Project

By having the opportunity to have a FIRST® LEGO® League Jr. materials we can possibly compete as a single team. With a small group of different talents and skills, we can assist in the collaboration of building a robot and gain the knowledge in applying engineering. These hands on materials will give students the confidence to build different forms of robots and at the same time have students have an opportunity to apply their learning in their writing, math, listening and speaking skills along with coding. Since we are limited to technology resources, this would really be truly appreciated and welcomed in our class and possibly be ready for a competition.

For most of our students in these difficult times as English Learning with limited resources will allow many of them to see how some interaction with a robot can build confidence in themselves and their studies.

In our school we have students that need a lot of motivation, opportunity, and incentives to not have to face consequences for their actions. We want them to see that collaboration and rewards are something that can be attainable and within their reach.
