My Students
When you are first learning to read, it can be a frustrating process. You want to be able to read the book fluently but there are words you don't know and sounds you don't know how to make. I see this on a daily basis in my classroom and I would like to help make the reading process more enjoyable.
My first graders are bubbly and eager to learn.
They are always asking questions and wondering about the world around them. They enjoy reading in class and they like sharing with others the books that they are reading. I want to continue to foster positive reading experiences with them in hopes of it continuing throughout life.
My Project
In order to encourage positive reading, I desire for my students to have access to a listening center with books on their level. It is key for students to listen to model reading in order to develop fluency while they are reading. It will reinforce skills we are learning in class and present reading in a fun way.
I am requesting read along books with cds on different reading levels and with different genres. I want to reach my students where they are at and challenge them to increase their reading skills. These books and cds will be a wonderful addition to our classroom because it will allow the students to take control and ownership of their reading.
This project will help my students succeed not only in reading but in all areas of their education.
Reading is intertwined throughout our curriculum and it would increase the students' independence if they can read and understand fluently. I desire nothing more than for my students to see success, to be confident in their abilities, and to have a passion for reading and learning. Please partner with us in helping first graders increase their fluency and their love for reading.
