First Graders Need Help Exploring the Universe

Help me give my students the opportunity to explore the solar system through hands-on activities and next-generation experiments.

My Project

This is my first year teaching first grade and I need supplies to help them with science SEEd strand 1.1, Seasons and Space Patterns. I want them to have hands-on experiences that will help them completely understand the standards and want to inquire beyond.

Giving students the opportunity to explore 21st Century ideas hands-on opens doorways to extraordinary learning experiences.

Understanding the patterns of the moon and the sequence of planets in the universe is the first step in this. Using manipulatives such as the solar system model and blow-up solar system will help with this part of the project. Researching, comparing, and contrasting different light patterns, shadows, and gravity will build on this. Flashlights, mirrors, and a gravity ball maze will be useful in this learning.

This will be my first group of first graders. I am really excited to work with them and see what they can teach me. We are a Title I charter school, and there are a lot of sweet kids. My goal for this project is to allow students to want to learn more than just what is necessary. Having these materials will help enhance our classroom environment and encourage this learning.
