This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are squished! Our classroom is far too small for the 26 wonderful little First Graders I get to spend my weekdays with, and they need some tools to help them find the space they need to think and work, both independently and in small groups, within our cramped classroom.

My students are incredibly challenged, mostly Hispanic or African American, from a highly economically- and socially-challenged neighborhood in NE Denver.

They have a great deal of behavior issues and most are more than a full year behind academically. My goal for these sweet, innocent kids is to help close the achievement gap that these students face every day, to help empower them to be lifelong learners and high achievers.

My Project

I am requesting some really basic supplies: simple clipboards for the students to use while they are working or writing in the classroom, one clipboard for me that can store behavior data and informal assessments as I move and work around the room, and two storage crates to keep our new materials neat and safe.

These simple tools will help expand the space my students have to work in from the squished tables they currently work at.

The clipboards will also expand the opportunities they have for collaborative work by creating space in different areas of the room, and they will help differentiate instruction for my diverse learners by allowing them to work on the carpet, close to the board, or in their own space. This simple project will have a big impact! Thank you very much for considering us!
